Known as the original Edinburgh 'Tartan Girl' Irene Wadsworth, founder of Scottish label Impractical Clothes, made her 2009 Dressed to Kilt debut with a one-off, specially designed, Homecoming 09 Scotland tartan sweetheart corset and bustle skirt.

As well as this striking VisitScotland commission, Impractical Clothes had other signature pieces strutting the catwalk last year, including this tartan corset and bustle skirt outfit worn by 'Obama Girl' Amber Lee Ettinger.

As well as designing and making a range of imaginative and innovative own-label creations, many of which are limited edition or one-offs, Impractical Clothes also offers a complete bespoke design service. The ethos behind the label is to provide beautiful clothes and accessories at realistic prices and to avoid the exploitation of mass-market production.

Impractical Clothes' fashion remit is as broad as it is remarkable: renowned for its tailored seam, where Victoriana meets the femme fatale of the 1950s, Wadsworth's label is famed for innovative, high-quality, beautifully-fitting and flattering clothes, designed and made with flair and imagination.

Wadsworth's journey has been that of a couture vagabond: she has done it all, from designing couture corsets and dresses and making dinky handbags and frilly knickers to organising high end fashion shows.

'To be part of this year's Dressed to Kilt is a huge privilege. I've been designing and making tartan outfits for ten years. To see them finally coming to New York as part of Tartan Week makes me very proud, and very excited too!'

Wadsworth's clothes are not clothes for lounging around the house in — they demand to be taken out and shown a good time!
